Saturday, June 20, 2009 was the big day for the Graduation Open House. The end of the story is that it was a great time for us. Enough family stuck it out to the end. Enough of Cs friends came to spend some time with her. Enough Church friends came to celebrate with us. I hope everyone enjoyed the party as much as we did giving it and sharing in your company.
After everything was cleaned up, put away, and loaded back in the car, we went home. Then we had to unload the car, put a lot of things away. Finally, we got to kick off our shoes and sit back and relax!! I think we all fell asleep after all that work..
C worked very hard on four posters of pictures commemorating her life from birth to graduation. She spent hours copying photos, cutting them out, arranging them, glueing them, identifying them ... it was worth her effort because the posters looked great.
It seems as though we shopped ad infinitum to get ingredients. Grams worked very hard on the food. C did her share. She cooked potatoes, macaroni, and eggs. Grams assembled those into salads. We cut up veggies. Made dips. Sliced rolls (thanks Gramps).
At church, the tables were set up. Tablecloths spread. Chairs placed. Decorations put up. I was personally proud of the memorabilia table with balloons above it and the posters on the wall. This gave every guest something to do. I pondered my own memories of the years gone by. Could it be that that brand new baby grew up so fast? ...that she was 18 already? ...that she had just graduated from high school?!! The pictures showed some good times. Some places travelled. Rites of passage... friends... family... life...
I had some wonderful mini-conversations. C said she did, too. We both wanted to spend more time with each person.
Thank you everyone who came. We loved having you! We are so grateful you love C enough to wish her happiness in her life after graduation.
