Picture Tag

I've been tagged by Susan.

I discovered that most of the pictures on the old computer were those I took of old pictures so I could have a new copy. Susan, you will be happy to know, I figured out how to get the picture copied and inserted onto my blog all by myself! Of course, if you hadn't explained the process to me I may have been lost still....
This picture is taken at Toldeo Junction. It was called that because two railroads came together there. My grandfather worked as a telegrapher for the Pennsylvania Railroad. At this time, he had been transferred and was given this house to live in while he worked in the tower within walking distance. You can see their house behind them. If you stretch your imagination, you can see the railroad tracks off to the left. Mom told me the house was about as close to the tracks as most houses are to the street. She said the first night they slept there, the trains woke her up every time they whizzed past. From the second night on, she slept soundly. This was probably taken between 1917 and 1920.
These are five siblings. In the back are Margaret, Ed, and Alice. In front are Frank and Harriet. According to the picture, their birth order is: 1, 3, 2, 4, 5. Alice is my mother. They have all died between 1984 and 1998. I miss them being a part of my world. They were good people.
The first four got married and had two children each. There are still eight of us cousins. Visiting the aunts and uncles was always looked forward to and enjoyed. Family was always the best there was. We'd either go to their house or they'd come to ours. Most often we went to Aunt Margaret's after her husband died because she didn't learn to drive until many years later. Aunt Laura, who lived two doors down, would usually come over to visit, too. Some years Aunt Harriet lived with her. Other years, we'd visit Aunt Harriet in Cleveland and sometimes Mom and I would stay over night. I liked best visiting Uncle Ed in Lyndhurst. Even better when he visited us on a Sunday afternoon when they had felt like taking a drive. He had a wonderful sense of humor and his wife made the best homemade cookies. Their boys and my brother and I were close enough in age that we always had a grand time together. Uncle Frank lived in Chicago and somehow we didn't visit as often. Occasionally they came here, especially when Grandpa lived with us, or on the way to the reunion. One summer we went out there and went to the zoo and had a picnic. Uncle Ed was there that day, too.
I love my family... and genealogy... and family history... and learning more about the people who came before me and contributed to my being who I am...
I tag:
Deborah ... who has lots of great photos on her blog already and the coolest scrap pages
Cristal ... because she's special and a whiz with computers and pictures
Robin ... because she's posted great photos and obviously loves her family more than anything
Tiffany ... because she's already good at posting pics and we'd like to see some of the older stuff

Phyl....you are a wonder! And you did this all by yourself! Isn't it fun to think what you can learn next and all for a silly blog. I love blogs. So really love reading people's thoughts and especially seeing their pix. This one is a great one, particularly with the history attached to it. Love it!
